Centella asiatica, also known as Hydrocotyle asiatica or gotu kola, grows in tropical swampy areas. The slender, creeping stems connect plants to each other. Gotu kola has been used to treat many conditions for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and in Indonesia.
Gotu kola is an adaptogen, is mildly antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antiulcerogenic, anxiolytic, nervine and vulnerary, and can act as a cerebral tonic, a circulatory stimulant, and a diuretic.
The role of Centella asiatica in the treatment of memory enhancement and other neurodegenerative disorders is well documented. Centella asiatica is used as a tonic to revitalize the brain and nervous system, for healing, and for longevity.
